The farmer’s fields are his identity.

The hard work and honest sweat of the farmer has etched the life Emma was born into and continues to live today.

Emma’s paintings portray the farmer’s view; the high hedgerow beside him as he walks the fields to bring the cows home for milking, the blackberries or hawthorn blossom surrounding him as they appear in the wild, ancient, hedge telling the cycle of the next season, the reeds and thistles by the river dividing his fields of home.

Emma Spence is an award winning mixed media artist who lives and works in Hillsborough, Co.Down.

Emma’s work aims to promote cultural recognition of the Irish rural landscape through the eyes of those that work, walk, or live in this land we call home.

The intimacy of her work which focuses on the wild peripheries of the well kept farmlands at close range is intense, beautiful and reflective.
